Olivier Penin, Koenig organ (2023), Couvent des
Dominicains in Strasbourg.
To promote the new Koenig organ (2023) at the
Dominican Convent in Strasbourg, Olivier Penin has
recorded a CD entitled Mélodies Célestes (Heavenly
Melodies).
The recording and its programme aim to showcase the many facets of this distinctive little instrument,
built in the Thuringian style. It offers a beautiful and delicate range of colours, perfectly suited to the
space and to the intimate prayers entrusted to it.
The programme is therefore firmly focused on works in the German Baroque tradition — Buxtehude,
Homilius, Boehm and, of course, Bach — as well as a Mendelssohn sonata from a later period.
Through a variety of forms (chorale preludes, preludes and fugues, a sonata and a partita) and themes
from the liturgical year (Advent, Passion, and so on), the idea was to demonstrate the remarkable sonic
possibilities of an instrument designed to match the size and character of the place for which it was
created.
The recording is also intended as a tribute to those who conceived it: the organ builder, the brothers and
the consultants. At the same time, it offers a musical memento of the Dominican Convent for anyone
who would like to take a little piece of this special place home with them.
Price : 15 euros
